Cost of Care

How Much Do Your Services Cost Out of Pocket?

Our itemized services are priced similarly to other maternity care providers in the area. Typically, routine maternity care services are “bundled” together to streamline the billing process. While this approach simplifies the process, it can still be complex. To ensure accuracy and efficiency, we work with a medical biller who specializes in maternity services to handle this process effectively.

Therefore, our routine maternity care services are bundled to include prenatal visits, birth, postpartum care, and newborn care, offering a significant discount compared to paying for each service separately. The bundled cost of routine care is $7,500.

If we are not in-network with your insurance company or you are uninsured, we offer a Cash Pay/Early Pay Discount. With this discount, your estimated cost of routine care is reduced from $7,500 to $5,500, provided the total is paid by 36 weeks of pregnancy. This represents a savings of $2,000.

How Can You Offer this Discount?

Processing insurance claims and writing itemized statements can be both time-consuming and costly. By avoiding the administrative costs of processing insurance claims and itemized statements with our biller, we can pass the savings directly to you.

We are happy to answer any questions or discuss your specific situation further. Please don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to help!

Are There Additional Charges?

Yes. At Clarksville Midwifery, we strive to be as transparent as possible about our pricing. However, like other maternity care providers, the estimate of care we provide is an estimate and not a final bill. Below is a list of examples of potential additional charges. These are not included in your estimate for one of two reasons:

  • Not everyone requires them.
  • They are items or services provided by external providers or facilities that you may be referred to

Please note, this list is not exhaustive, and additional charges may apply based on your individual needs. Let us know if you have any questions or need further clarification.

Birth Kit

Each client is required to purchase a birth kit, which contains disposable supplies preselected by Clarksville Midwifery. These items are essential for your birth and are non-reusable items.

Purchase link: Clarksville Midwifery Custom Birth Kit.
Cost of Standard kit: Approximately $75
Water Birth Option
: If you plan to have a water birth, you’ll need to add a one-time-use liner and a drinking-water-quality hose to the kit. With these additional items, the cost of your birth kit is approximately $150.

Tub Rental

If you are wanting a water birth and do not have a large, garden-sized tub, you can rent our Mini Birth Tub in a Box.

Included Services: Our team will empty, clean, and break down the tub after use.
Cost: $100 rental fee.
Reimbursement: If your family does not inflate the tub to use, you’ll receive a $75 refund.

Childbirth Classes

Unmedicated childbirth is hard, but doable. It can be especially challenging for first-time parents. To help you prepare, we strongly encourage all our clients to attend a high-quality, in-person childbirth class. This is particularly important for those who have not experienced an unmedicated birth before.

Class Recommendations: We will provide a list of recommended classes during your care.
Cost: Prices typically range from $150–$400, depending on the class you choose.
This cost is set by and paid directly to your childbirth instructor.

Medications, Supplements, and Supplies

Not all clients require medications or special supplements beyond a prenatal vitamin during pregnancy, birth, or in the postpartum period. For this reason, these costs are only charged to clients who need them.

Cost: Prices vary depending on individual needs and are charged only as applicable.

Examples of Additional Items:

  • Rhogam: For Rh-negative clients.
  • Pitocin or Other Anti-hemorrhagic Medications: Used only in cases of excessive postpartum bleeding.
  • Herbal Tinctures: When desired as an alternative to recommended medications.
  • Suture Supplies: For postpartum repairs if needed.
  • Newborn Medications: Based on specific circumstances.

Non-Routine Visits

Routine appointments are included in your estimate of care. However, if additional visits are needed beyond the routine schedule, they will incur additional charges.

Cost: Charges vary and are based on type of visit and time involved in the visit.

Examples of Non-Routine Visits:

  • Problem visits
  • Additional post-dates checkups
  • Additional labor support visits
  • Newborn weight checks
  • Additional lactation support appointments
  • Mental health visits

Non-Routine Tests and Supplies

Some tests and supplies may be recommended based on individual circumstances. These are not included in routine care and will incur additional charges if needed.

Cost: Charges vary depending on the specific test or supply and the client’s individual needs.

Examples:

  • Non-Stress Testing (NSTs): For clients of advanced maternal age or those past their due date.
  • Ultrasounds: To check fetal position at term. if necessary.
  • Venipuncture: For in-office lab draws, if necessary.
  • Cook’s Catheter: For cervical ripening before labor, if necessary.
  • Fresh Test: A natural, evidence-based alternative to the standard glucose drink.

Labs and Diagnostic Ultrasounds

To help us determine that you are low-risk and appropriate for an out-of-hospital birth, we recommend standard labs, tests, and screenings.

Cost: Prices will vary based on your insurance coverage or the facility’s cash-pay rates.
Where These Are Performed: These tests are typically conducted at a local lab or ultrasound facility.
Billing and Costs:

  • The facility performing the tests will bill you directly for these services.
  • Most facilities accept insurance plans and offer cash-pay options for uninsured clients.

Birth Assistant

For safety reasons, Clarksville Midwifery makes every effort for our midwives to not attend births alone. We make every effort to have at least two professionals present at every birth: a midwife and a birth assistant. This ensures a higher level of care and support during your birth experience.

Cost: $250

Services Provided by Non-Clarksville Midwifery Providers or Facilities

Services performed by another provider or facility, even if referred by a Clarksville Midwifery provider, are not included in your estimate of care. These services will be billed directly by the provider or facility performing them.

Please Note: Clarksville Midwifery has no control or influence over these charges. If you receive a bill from another provider or facility and have billing questions, please contact their billing department directly for assistance.

Billing and Processing Time

Please Note: It may take up to 6 months to process fees for additional services after your care has been completed. If you have questions about any bills you’ve received, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We are happy to assist you and help clarify any billing concerns.

Do You Accept My Insurance?

We are in-network with most Blue Cross Blue Shield, Anthem, Cigna, and Aetna plans. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept Medicaid (TennCare or Kentucky Medicaid plans), Medicare, TRICARE, Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO’s), or Marketplace plans.

Since insurance coverage varies by individual plan, the best way to confirm if we are in-network and determine your maternity benefits is to call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card. Once you begin care our biller will verify your maternity benefits and provide a detailed estimate of your cost for routine services based on your coverage.

We strive to make our services accessible and offer flexible, interest-free payment plans to accommodate different financial situations. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions.

Do You Accept Tricare?

Unfortunately, we do not accept Tricare. As a mixed CNM/CPM team, Tricare does not currently cover our services.

We do offer a Cash Pay/Early Pay Discount which reduces your estimated cost of routine care from $7,500 to $5,500, provided the total is paid by 36 weeks of pregnancy. This represents a savings of $2,000.

If you would like to see Tricare expand its coverage to include all licensed midwives services, we encourage you to contact Tricare and your local Congress representative to advocate for policy changes. Please let us know if you have any questions or need further assistance.

Do You Accept Healthshare Plans?

Yes, however, Clarksville Midwifery cannot currently directly bill any healthshare plan. All healthshare plan members can choose between the Cash Pay/Early Pay Discount (no itemized receipts) or choose to use our biller to create an estimate letter and itemized receipts for submission to their plan once care with Clarksville Midwifery is complete.

If you have specific questions or need assistance with the required paperwork, please let us know—we’re here to help make the process as smooth as possible for you!
